week 9 # 23

I enjoyed almost every exercise we did during ihcpl. My absolute favorite was Library Thing. I will definitely continue to use that site. Some of my other favorites were avatars, flickr, and blogspot itself. The social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook I was already acquainted with. I also really enjoyed getting on to Overdrive and discovering the many items available online through our library system. I think this will play a big part in the future of our libraries. The only problem I had with ihcpl is that it was done so late in the year. I think any training this big should be done at the beginning or middle of the year. Also, I believe most people I work with went way over the 10 hours we received for doing this training. Some of the exercises were hard if you are not computer savvy. I know I probably spent a good 13 or 14 hours on the entire program. Over all I enjoyed learning about the different applications through ihcpl and would not mind having this type of training in the future.

week 9 # 22

I liked our site the best. LibriVox won't work because it's having issues and I didn't like the way the search worked on Wowio. I was surprised we had a lot of the new teen titles available for download and some to even burn to cd. I like the idea of putting these titles on an mp3 player or ipod. My daughter and I travel a lot and this will come in handy. Instead of having to keep up with all those cd's and cd player, we only have to bring the mp3 player. I can't wait to start using this site.

week 9 # 21

I liked podcast.net and yahoo podcasts. They are great if you are looking for a specific subject or person but other than that it is just so much information to sort through. I prefer to go to sites I already visit and watch their podcasts. I had no idea you could subscribe to one though, so that was neat. I subscribed to "mugglecast" which is off the mugglenet website for Harry Potter fans.

week 9 # 20

I love youtube! I have been using it for years to look up old clips from my favorite shows like SNL and of course SCRUBS. As far as it being useful at the library, it seems to have come in handy for ihcpl.

WEEK 8 # 19

I wish we had this 8 years ago when I as still in college. You don't know how many times I had to stay after work because I was working on a paper for school in Word and my computer at home didn't have it so I couln't work on my paper anywhere but the library. At the time I was working at North Channel and Pat was nice enough to let me work on my papers before and after work. It was a big pain because I'd even have to go to the library on my day off. That was always a bummer. Zoho sure seems like it makes life much easier.

WEEK 8 # 18

I like social networking to a certain extent. I have a My Space account and like keeping in touch with my friends and co-workers on that site. I like it because I can look at my friends sites and see what they are up to and any new pictures they have posted and I like the fact they can do the same to my space. I looked at facebook but I wasn't that impressed with it. I can see where people could spend all day just socializing and not even leave their home. I still prefer the telephone to communicating online, but it does have its uses.

week 7 # 17

Cell phones are my favorite form of technology. I don't know what I did before cell phones. I really can't imagine my life without one. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who has a cell phone stuck to her ear everywhere I go and every minute that I'm there. I have to admit that is one of my pet peeves is when a patron comes up to me and expects me to help them when they don't have enough respect for me to take the phone out of their ear. But I do love having it when I'm out shopping and need to know if we are out of milk or whatever and I don't have to stop what I'm doing and find a payphone. I love not having to worry about getting out of my car late at night to find a phone.

week 7 # 16

The only experience before this that I've had with Wiki's is Wikipedia and I never really explored that. I like the Hcpl Wiki. It seems like a good way to get information on things that interest you and a way to get to know people in the system. I don't know of applications in the library you could use a wiki for because of privacy issues.

week 6 # 15

I liked the perspective Into a New World of Librarianship. I liked how the author said "the library is human." No matter how technologically advanced libraries become, you will always have patrons that are looking for a "human" touch. Libraries should plan for the future needs and wants of its community but avoid "technolust" as the author puts it. I believe our libraries do a good job of bringing all the newest technology to our patrons while continuing to provide them with human interaction when it is wanted or needed.

week 6 # 14

I can't watch any of the the videos which is disappointing. When going through the popular searches I clicked on "learning 2.0" and found a blog about cell phones in the classroom as learning tools. It was interesting to read the many comments on that blog. Once again though, this is just too much information for me. I think I'll just stick with Google.

week 6 # 13

I see the potential for using this for research purposes. It was interesting to click on the users who had bookmarked the sites and to see the many different things they are interested in. For me it would come in handy for getting to my bookmarks from any location. I probably would not be interested in using this tool though. Too much information.

week 5 # 12

It was easy to register my card. I was surprised this site could get access to library records. I personally won't use this site but I can see where it would come in very handy for those who have cards at many different libraries. Instead of having to go to each of those sites, you can just look on this one website and see what you have checked out and when it's due.

week 5 # 11

I really like Library Thing. I will definitely continue to use it. Here's my link....

Week 4 # 9

I liked Feedster the best. I found a bunch of entertainment feeds I didn't know existed. The most interesting one I found was conversations overheard in New York City. Pretty funny stuff, but most of it too dirty to post on my blog. I do prefer just visiting my favorite websites and finding the feeds on there. It seems a little less complicated.

Week 4 # 8

Creating the Bloglines account was easy. Once I found out how to subscribe to the RSS feeds it was simple to keep adding them. I don't think I'll ever read all of those feeds but I will probably keep a few. I like the idea of having my friends blogs right there on one page to look at. I'll probably use that more than anything else.

Week 3 # 7

Same picture after Pixer. I have to say I had a lot of trouble editing this photo at work. I tried for two days on three different computers and the picture kept disappearing on me every time I would try to edit it. I finally did it at home and had no problem.

ihcpl week 3 # 6

I really liked the Trip Planner and Trippermap. I go on at least two trips a year usually and can see where these will come in handy with planning and helping me remember sights I would really like to see. I don't think I would use the mashups at all. The color picker was cool.

ihcpl week 2

I liked the "Think Before You Post" video. I'll probably show it to my teenage daughter. I am pretty comfortable sharing online, but I can see why some people aren't.

ihcpl week 1

I liked the powerpoint. It was cute. Never blogged or RSS before so looking forward to learning new things.
